Special Service Award


2012 Award Information

Deadline for submissions:
February 1, 2012

Introduction:

The Special Service Award is given to a person who has made outstanding contributions within the field of avian medicine.  These contributions must be demonstrated through scientific work, organizational involvement, and service to fellow colleagues.  The award shall be in the amount of $1,000.00 plus travel expenses, if necessary, to the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Annual Meeting.

 

Qualification Criteria:

The nominee shall have made outstanding contributions to avian medicine via scientific work, organizational involvement, and service to colleagues.

 

Awards will be based on the following:

     1)      The cover letter is a letter of nomination.

     2)      Statement of special service.  A description of the nature of the activities thought to constitute special service to the field of avian medicine.

     3)      List of professional positions.  In addition, state the length of time and activities associated with those positions.

     4)      List of memberships in professional organizations associated with avian medicine.  In addition, state any activities the nominee has been involved in relating to these organizations.

     5)      List of awards or honors indicative of prior recognition of service to colleagues and to the field of avian medicine.

     6)      Statement of impact on other colleagues in the field of avian medicine (local, national, and/or international).

     7)      Statement estimating the portion of the career which was devoted to activities in the field of avian medicine.

     8)      Special supportive material pertinent to the nominee’s particular area of service (e.g., a bibliography would be suitable for a nominee whose contributions have been largely in the area of research).  If a bibliography is submitted, please highlight 5 references that the nominator feels are most significant.
