Welcome to the American Association of Avian Pathologists!
Founded in 1957, this organization has served as a platform from which many a poultry career was launched. I know that you will find AAAP a welcoming place to network with colleagues, build on your knowledge base by having access to some pioneers in poultry medicine, and advance your knowledge through a diverse offering of products.
Networking at the AAAP meeting held annually in conjunction with the AVMA summer meeting brings together more than 450 poultry veterinarians, PhD’s and student members to present posters and presentations on a wide variety of diseases that impact our industry. I encourage you to join in the discussions and present your work to others to help increase the collective knowledge of poultry medicine.
Our organization boasts a broad diversity of academic, cultural, ethnic, and base of knowledge experiences in its membership. By getting to know a cross-section of our members, you can touch almost any aspect of poultry medicine where you have an interest and engage in discussions of that topic, often with the original researchers. I think you will find most of these pioneers are teachers and explorers…a great combination of traits in which to learn.
Looking at the AAAP website, you will discover the spectrum of products offered by AAAP. The Diseases of Poultry book, slide sets, white papers, manuals and guides are only a small sampling of the educational materials available. Access to a member only directory puts the contact information of the poultry world at your fingertips. The history section gives you the opportunity to read about the pioneers of poultry medicine where you may gain insights into how the early diagnoses were made. The Avian Diseases journal will present you with cutting edge research to stimulate your thoughts around various poultry diseases.
I have listed only a few of the advantages of membership in AAAP. I encourage you to explore our organization and if you are not a member, consider joining this outstanding organization.
Sincerely,
Francene Van Sambeek, DVM, MAM, Dip. ACPV
