Awards Committee

Awards Annual Committee Meeting:
Wednesday, July 10, 4:15PM
Midway Suites 4, St. Louis Union Station Hotel

Purpose Statement & Focus

The Awards Committee has the honor of recognizing the achievements of AAAP members and poultry professionals. Some of the awards given by AAAP recognize the long term contributions by members to our profession, while others recognize excellence in research, field diagnostics, and young people as they begin their careers in poultry. The committee members are responsible for the selection of the recipients for these various awards.

This committee involves a lot of dedication throughout the year; but is a great way to learn more about AAAP, will expose you to some exciting poultry research, and is an excellent way to network with other talented AAAP members.

Specific Objectives

  • The committee encourages the members of the AAAP to nominate candidates for member awards.
  • During the Fall and Spring months, the committee is actively involved in the selection of the recipients for various awards. These include:
    • P.P. Levine Award: committee members read the publications from Avian Diseases and select the top paper from the previous year’s journal. The recipient of the award is kept a secret until the AAAP Awards Luncheon during the summer meeting.
    • AAAP Special Service Award, Bruce W. Calnek Achievement Award, Phibro Animal Health Poultry Research Award, Lasher-Bottorff Award, and the Bayer-Snoeyenbos New Investigator Award: committee members review nominations and applications for these awards and select the top recipient for each prestigious member award. The recipient for each of these awards is kept a secret until the AAAP Awards Luncheon during the summer meeting.
  • During the summer AAAP meeting, committee members select winners for two additional awards. These include:
    • Student Poster Award: committee members evaluate the student posters presented during the poster session of the AAAP program. One poster is chosen for the best example of applied research and one poster is chosen for the best example of basic research. The recipients of the poster award are announced during the AAAP reception.
    • Best Case/Diagnostic Award: committee members evaluate the presentations included in the Field Case/Diagnostic Section of the AAAP scientific program and choose the best presentation for this award. The recipients for this award is announced during the AAAP reception.
