News from AAAP Allied Organizations: AVMA and NCADC
As a previous AVMA PAC contributor, have you ever wanted to discuss what issues are important to the veterinary profession with your representatives in Congress and their staffs? Are you looking for an opportunity to participate in a unique, hands-on advocacy experience that will help educate lawmakers before they make public policy decisions that impact your clients, your patients, and YOU?
Here’s your chance: The AVMA is holding its 2023 Legislative Fly-In from April 17–19 in Washington, D.C., and we want you to join us! The fly-in is a special opportunity, marking the first in person fly-in since 2020. Register now to visit with your Members of Congress and make sure your perspective on veterinary issues is heard!
The Legislative Fly-In will allow veterinary leaders and advocates like you to meet with lawmakers as the new Congress begins, thus setting the tone for important issues affecting the profession such as animal welfare and small business issues.
As we ramp up our advocacy efforts to ensure the voice of the veterinary community is heard on these issues and other legislative priorities, the AVMA is hosting a large group of veterinary advocates in Washington this April to meet face-to-face with Members of Congress and their staffs.

WHEN: April 17-19, 2023
WHO: YOU and other veterinary advocates
Before our day on Capitol Hill, you will attend a day of advocacy training on April 18 to ensure you are fully prepared for your meetings with your legislators. The training will be followed by a reception sponsored by the AVMA PAC. On April 19, we will begin with a keynote address from congressional champions of the veterinary profession and then you will meet with your lawmakers in person.
The past few years have demonstrated what an important role veterinarians play in our society, and a strong turnout during the fly-in will help lawmakers know what they can do to help advance veterinary medicine. Call for Abstracts
Abstract Submissions
All are encouraged to submit Titles and Abstracts for the 2023 NCADC program. Topics can include, but are not limited to: poultry disease research studies, case reports, diagnostics, enhancement of biosecurity, or any field updates regarding specific poultry diseases.
The Deadline for title and abstract submission is March 1st, 2023. A disposition regarding your submitted abstract(s) will be communicated by March 15th, 2023. Oral presentations are limited to 15 minutes. Monetary prizes for the Pomeroy Best Graduate Student Presentation and the Best Case Report will be awarded.
Please follow these submission instructions for titles and abstracts:
- Titles and abstracts should be submitted in a word file formatted with Times New Roman font at a size of 12 point single spacing document. Margins, in all directions, must be 1 inch.
- The title can be 150 characters maximum. Spaces are not included in the title character count.
- Provide a list of authors affiliations below the title, including the presenting author’s Affiliation and Email address
- Abstract should include an introduction, procedures, results and conclusions. These do not need to be separated by each category, and can be combined into a single paragraph.
- The title and abstract should not exceed one page in length.
- If you submit more than one abstract, please use one file per title and designate the order of preference.

The 74th North Central Avian Disease Conference will be held immediately before the PEAK 2023 Convention at its new venue in lovely downtown Minneapolis, MN. There is good access by air and road. This is a premier gathering for veterinarians and affiliated professionals in poultry.
