Avian Diseases Special Issue for 2024 - Seeking Papers

Title: Current Infectious Bacterial Diseases of Poultry

Avian Diseases is currently seeking papers for the 2024 Special Issue that will focus on six specific bacterial diseases of poultry. The core of the Special Issue will be Invited Reviews, but we are also seeking to supplement the Special Issue with thematically coordinated Original Research articles as well as Case Reports on these topics.

The Special Issue will focus on:

  • Avibacterium paragallinarum, which is reemerging and causing outbreaks of Infectious Coryza in layer and pullet chickens around the world;
  • Enterococcus species of importance to poultry, especially impacting broilers;
  • Streptococcus gallolyticus, an emerging cause of acute septicemia and sequelae in young turkeys
  • Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale, a pathogen whose role in respiratory diseases of turkeys is evolving;
  • Campylobacter species causing hepatitis in layer chickens; and
  • Erysipelas (caused by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae), a disease whose incidence is increasing, particularly with the transition to cage free egg production.

All submissions will be peer-reviewed. There will be no page charges for publication in this Special Issue. For guidance on manuscript submission, please see the Author Guidelines page for Avian Diseases. When submitting, please ensure you indicate that your manuscript is intended for the Special Issue.

In addition to the Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Randall Singer ([email protected]), the Special Issue will be led by Guest Editors Dr. Mohamed El-Gazzar ([email protected]) and Dr. Timothy Johnson ([email protected]) as well as Associate Editor Dr. Silke Rautenschlein ([email protected]).

If you intend to submit an Original Research or Case Report manuscript for the Special Issue, please contact the Editor-in-Chief ([email protected]) ahead of submission to ensure the manuscript fits the scope of the Special Issue.
