Bruce Stewart-Brown
AAAP Hall of Honor

Bruce was born in Moline, IL (USA). He grew up in the small town (750) of Paw Paw.  He attended the Iowa State University where he received his BS in 1980 and DVM in 1985.  Bruce is a Diplomate of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians and a foundation auditor of the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization (PAACO).
Bruce joined Salsbury Laboratories in Charles City, IA after graduation from veterinary school.  He worked as a technical services veterinarian visiting poultry companies in over 40 different countries.  His career in the vaccine business lasted for 13 years, 3 different names for the company, and 4 different locations.  His last position was with Fort Dodge Animal Health, in Overland Park, KS, as Director of Global Technical Services, Poultry.
In 1998, Bruce joined Perdue Farms as a field veterinarian on the Delmarva Peninsula and later that year became the Director of Health Services.  In 2003, he became a Vice President of Food Safety and Quality within Perdue.  Starting in 2013, Bruce has been Senior Vice President in charge of Food Safety, Quality, and Live Operations
Bruce co-authors the “Diseases of Public Health Significance” chapter in Diseases of Poultry.  He also is co-author of the chapter “Nutrition and Management: Poultry” in the Merck Manual. 
Bruce has been on a number of committees within AAAP through the years including the Awards Committee and the Program Committee.  He was President of the American Association of Avian Pathologists in 2008–2009 received their Special Services award in 2015.
Bruce has been married to Barbara (also a veterinarian) for 35 years and they have two children, Ben and Lauren.  Bruce and Barbara spend much of whatever time off they have visiting their children and Athens, GA and Chicago, IL.
