
AAAP Student Membership is $25/year and includes an online subscription to the journal Avian Diseases.
Welcome Students! To help our students in their future careers, AAAP offers multiple benefits to student members. When you join AAAP, you receive access to the following benefits:
- AAAP Foundation Scholarships that offer 21 scholarship opportunities for vet students, undergraduates, and MS/PhD students.
- The L. Dwight Schwartz Travel Award, which covers travel costs for veterinary students interested in attending the AAAP Annual Meeting.
- The Reed Rumsey and Rimler Memorial Paper Student Awards, which cover costs for students to present at the AAAP Annual Meeting.
- The Kenneth H. Eskelund Externship Poultry Medicine Training Program, which helps defray student externship expenses up to $1,500.
- Reduced AAAP Annual Meeting registration costs, travel support for student presenters, and student travel awards for non-speakers.
- Access to the AAAP Mentorship Program, which matches students to mentees who offer support and guidance on career goals.
Awards and Scholarships
The AAAP Foundation annually offers 40+ scholarships to students interested in poultry medicine. Scholarship award amounts range from $500 to $5,000, helping students pay for their education, defray housing, living and travel expenses incurred while attending externships, and helping to cover travel expenses for students presenting their work at the AAAP Annual Meeting.

Student Chapters
AAAP encourages and supports Student Chapters as part of its mission to promote scientific knowledge to enhance the health, well-being, and productivity of poultry. Student Chapters benefit students who are interested in becoming poultry veterinarians and students who are interested in learning more about poultry health, welfare or food safety.

Vet School Liaisons
The AAAP has put together a list of the current liaisons with poultry veterinary colleges. The vet liaison acts as a point of contact between vet school and the American Association of Avian Pathologists! They disseminate information about programs and scholarships AAAP provides to support students.

Applications/Reporting
Student chapters of AAAP may be organized at schools or colleges of veterinary medicine under the direction of an advisor who is a current member in good standing of AAAP. Current AAAP Student Chapters must submit an annual report to the AAAP.

NAVLE Exam
The AAAP has put together a study guide on basic poultry medicine information to aid in those veterinary students studying for the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (NAVLE) examination.
