Student Scholarships and Awards
The AAAP Foundation offers over 30 awards and scholarships to support student members each year. This includes travel support to the AAAP Annual Meeting. Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $5,000.
Deadline: November 1st
Criteria:
- Applicants must be enrolled in a university undergraduate curriculum with a focus on poultry health and well-being and/or food safety.
OR
- Applicants must be enrolled in a veterinary college leading to a DVM or VMD degree focused on poultry health and well-being and/or food safety.
Application Requirements:
- Official transcript of grades.
- Two recommendation forms.
- CV to include experience related to poultry health and well-being and/or food safety.
- A brief essay (500 words or less) describing career goals.
Deadline: December 15th
Criteria:
- Applicants must be in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study at an AVMA accredited college of veterinary medicine located in the U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, or the Caribbean Islands.
Application Requirements:
- Official transcript of grades.
- Two letters of recommendation.
Deadline: April 1st
Criteria:
- Applicant must be an AAAP DVM or undergraduate student member. Membership can be obtained at any time via the AAAP website. PhD or MS students are welcome to apply for the Avian Biosciences Travel Scholarship.
Application Requirements:
- CV.
- A letter of recommendation sent by the applicant’s current mentor/advisor sent to [email protected] or submit it online in the application form below.
- A statement written by the applicant (250 words maximum) describing how the applicant expects to benefit from a travel award to attend the AAAP meeting.
Deadline: November 1st
Criteria:
- Applicants must be enrolled in a thesis-requiring Master of Science program or a Doctor of Philosophy program involving some aspect of poultry health.
- Applicants must have demonstrated an interest in poultry medicine by participating in a research project pertaining to poultry health, welfare, or disease.
- Applicants must present an oral or poster presentation of their research at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Avian Pathologists.
Application Requirements:
- Applicant CV.
- Official transcript of grades.
- A brief essay (500 words or less) describing career goals.
- A supporting letter from the major professor or other member of the candidate’s graduate committee, who is a member in good standing of AAAP, commenting on the applicant’s suitability and qualification for the award.
- Applicants are required to submit a short description of their abstract with this application.
Deadline: December 15th
Criteria:
- Applicants must be veterinary students, graduate students, residents, or interns pursuing an existing program in a College of Veterinary Medicine or appropriate department in an academic institution.
- Applicants must present an oral presentation of their research or case report at the Avian Medicine Section of the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Avian Pathologists.
Application Requirements:
- Submission of 1-2 page abstract describing the original research, or a case study conducted by the applicant.
- Applicant CV.
- Official transcript of grades.
- A brief essay (1-2 pages) describing career goals.
- A supporting letter from the major professor or someone else from the institution qualified to comment on the quality of the applicant.
Deadline: December 15th
Criteria:
- Applicants must be enrolled in a thesis-requiring Master of Science program or a Ph.D. program or have received the degree within the year preceding the application deadline.
- Applicants must present an oral presentation of their research at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Avian Pathologists.
Application Requirements:
- Submission of 1-2 page abstract describing the original research, or a case study conducted by the applicant.
- Applicant CV.
- Official transcript of grades.
- A brief essay (1-2 pages) describing career goals.
- A supporting letter from the major professor or other member of the candidate’s graduate committee, who is a member in good standing of AAAP, commenting on the applicant’s suitability and qualification for the award.

Criteria:
- Applicants must be enrolled in a DVM/VMD program in an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine.
- Applicants must have demonstrated an interest in poultry medicine by participating in poultry related research, externship or work experience, or elective courses.
Application Requirements:
- Submission of 1-2 page narrative statement describing the applicant's interest, experience, and career aspirations in the field of poultry medicine.
- Two letters of recommendation (at least one from an AAAP member).
- Official transcript of grades.
